I think...
My name is Shunsuke Sunagawa. I'm a designer. I'm based on TOKYO.
I like being creative and enjoy becoming aware of anything that I have never noticed before. I see and develop my interest personally and professionally through everyday experience with people. I have a passion to create experience for people. I enjoy dealing with all elements that make communication. Important aspects for me are visualization, experience, culture and media.
I studyed at Goldsmith College MA Design: Critical Theory and Practice in order to pursue my interests in the relationship between information and people. I believe a small design trigger can have an impact on people as well as on interactive communication. I am engaged with interactivity, tangibility and intangibility, and spatial and temporal condition in relation to the everyday life. My challenge is to seek the potential on objects through experimental process, which I call ‘hacking’ in my project.
During my career I have been involved in various design projects ranging from personal to commercial, art to design. I have learned how to engage with a wide range of project brief and to response to specific needs. The experience I gained has enabled me to take an essential role in communicating the concept behind the project to the wide team and to work with them to develop individual elements of the final design. I further understood the complexity of design process and that it is vital to communicate and discuss ideas. I enjoy very much seeking design focus and concepts that are visualization, branding design, form, colour, texture, information editing and more importantly details according to the contexts.
My desire to become a designer started in 2000 in Musashino Art University BA Design Informatics. I learned various field of design, such as graphic, interface, product, multimedia design, design marketing, and design theory. Especially, I was interested in Typography as visual language. And also, I taught myself some computer applications; Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, and Dreamweaver, some script language; XHTML, CSS, Action Script1.0/2.0, PHP and illustration skill became responsible for the professional production of presentations, drawings and models. In 2004, I started my career in Elephant Communications Inc., as graphic and web designer. Through about three years in there, I also trained communication, design and computing skills. During my employment I learned how to be very well organized under tight deadlines and to enjoy teamwork.
In 2004 after graduated Musashino Art University, I stared to work as an independent design, and came to England with the purpose of studying design in an academic context. At Goldsmiths College, I developed my understanding of the conceptual design process. During my studies I worked on my interest in creating communicative experience that seem to be unlimited idea, time and space. In my final project I developed and combined with my BA final project, to explore designing the trigger of thinking and understanding within interactive communication, in order to create a multiple and flexible relationship between people and environment. I am also working with some artists and designers. One is with Axel Roch, who is media artist. We have some on going projects will exhibit in the world. And the other one was a design exhibition in London with some talented designers, which is a part of London Design Festival 2007. I am working as a director (concept design and curating), and exhibition designer.
